Monday Music – Part 4

Something new to me (even if it isn’t to a lot of people!) The Eagles!:

Monday music – part III

This week – Coldplay (sparks)

But I promise you this,
I’ll always look out for you,
That’s what I’ll do.

Monday Music – Part Deux

This weeks monday music post is just two songs that I have been listening to this week:

David Gray – Lately – used to love this song and just started listening to it again!

And the thought for this week is:  Dance like you’re the only one around

Fairtrade Friday

As Fairtrade fortnight draws to a close I thought I would do a post about my Fairtrade Friday which I decided to do as part of Fairtrade fortnight! Basically, I decided to do my usual shop for the next days lunch/dinner but instead of just buying whatever I fancied that day I tried to substitute as many products as possible withFairtrade alternatives.

Here is the result:

Breakfast…….

Lunch……

I couldn’t find any alternative products for my lunch :(

Dinner……

Tea drinking (with the amount of tea I drink, this probably has the most impact out of all my purchases ;) ……

Snacks……

My bag for the day (purchased from Accessorize)……

I was a little disappointed with the selection of Fairtrade products available at my local supermarket especially as it was Fairtrade Fortnight. However, it has spurred me on to buy Fairtrade products where possible!

I intend to continue supporting Fairtrade and this post is just the start!

Monday music…. part 1

Inspired by easyrew’s Wednesday Wisdom! I thought I would introduce a few “regular-ish” posts to my blog because I never update it! Therefore, here is Monday music…. part 1! It’s just a post with songs or lyrics that I love and have either been listening to constantly or have discovered this week: here goes….

listen.gifThe Killers – Tranquilize

Silently reflection turns my world to stone
Patiently correction leaves us all alone
And sometimes I’m a travel man
But tonight this engine’s failing
……
We’re the ones who still believe
And we’re looking for a page
In that lifeless book of hope
Where a dream might help you cope

listen.gifKeane – Try Again (also – live at Union Chapel)

I fell asleep on a late night train
I missed my stop and I went round again
Why would I wanna see you now?
To fix it up, make it up somehow
…..
But I was made the way I am
I’m not a stone; I’m just a man
Lay down your arms and I will lay down mine
Reap back the time that we’ve been wasting
…….

God I wish you could see me now
You’d pick me up and you’d sort me out

This is how to sell chocolate..

I seem to have always had an unhealthy ability to recall adverts and the brands they are promoting, and instead of getting a nice cup of tea during the commercial break, I tend to find myself watching the ads!

Nestle have recently been running some fantastic adverts for the new Aero Bubbles (which I am addicted to!). In my opinion.. THIS is how to sell chocolate:

Also, I rarely click on banner adverts on the web, but the Aero Bubble “hunk” popped up when I was browsing a fairly mundane website and funnily enough it caught my eye! So, I answered a few questions and apparently my ideal hunk is: The Arty Type…

So has this advertising worked on me? well… it’s amusing, fun and grabs some peoples attention! but I would of more than likely bought Aero Bubbles anyway!

Free Rice?

riceI saw this article on the BBC website and thought I would share this with anyone reading my blog! Basically, there is a website: www.freerice.com who donate money to buy 10 grains of rice for each click on a correct answer in a vocabulary test.  Sounds simple enough, so I had a look and managed to raise enough to donate 180 grains of rice in just a few minutes… plus I have improved my vocabulary with one or two interesting words! my favourite new addition is the word: meliorate

Week Four – Open Uni Course – T189

This week was all about Depth of Field and controlling the focus of our photos.

Brief: Capture and share five images demonstrating your ability to control depth of field to achieve desired photographic effects.

Here are my photos, all staring 5 little aliens from Hawkin’s Bazaar (a great shop, but I digress from the subject!) I tried to control the depth of field using a combination of Focal length, Object distance and Lens Aperture: Read More »

Week Three – Open Uni Course – T189

This week was all about good exposure! We have learnt about achieving good exposure in our photos using a combination of aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

Brief: Capture and share five well exposed images from two of three catagories.

I chose to take photos (hopefully well exposed ones) of “creative motion blur” and “low light still photography”.

Here are my 5 photos that I have submitted for this weeks assignment:

Next stop – Depth of field

look into the lyrics, not around the lyrics! ;)

Maybe we could meet again further down the river
And share what we both discovered…
Then revel in the view
